I-95 is the main north south route in this region. Exit 130 connects to Route 3 and Plank Road and leads to the area’s largest shopping center. Route 3 handles many trips in the east west direction. A commercial count taken on Plank Road indicates that 57,000 vehicles travel that roadway each day, AADT, compared to 165,000 for the adjacent section of I-95. To reach shops via I-95 and Route 3, drivers use U.S. 1, Emancipation Highway, Lafayette Boulevard, Cowan Boulevard, Fall Hill Avenue, and Carl D. Silver Parkway. Therefore, businesses should focus on customers using these corridors to access their stores; specifically, they need to promote their ability to provide quick access to customers via highways and low speed roads.

Much of the data about public safety indicates there are several risks associated with major arterials and downtown intersections, not necessarily a single worst ranking. The climate around Fredericksburg causes moderate but considerable wear and damage. The highest monthly totals are 1,376 citations (June, July) and 1,304 citations (October), all of which could be considered highway congestion due to high volumes of traffic on roads that go to (and along) Cowan Boulevard, Washington Avenue, Idlewild Boulevard, Gateway Boulevard, etc. Drivers who intend to purchase an automobile would likely find these very practical attributes: driver assist features; high visibility; and ease with which to control vehicle speed.
