    F-150 Ford

First introduced in 1975, the Ford F-150 sits between the lighter F-100 and heavier F-250 in size and weight, making it a half-ton truck. In addition to being available for commercial use, the Ford F-Series is also available for retail use. Within this pickup segment, the Ford F-150 has evolved into the standard by which other half-ton trucks are measured for everyday driving, jobsite use, towing capacity, and utility.

Over time, the F-150 moved beyond its original purpose as primarily a work truck and grew to include fleet trucks, luxury trucks, off-road vehicles, hybrid models, and electric trucks.

Ford still produces the F-150 truck and currently offers gas, hybrid, off-road, luxury, and electric models, including the F-150 Lightning.

The Ford F-150 attracts customers through its combination of payload capacity, towing power, engine choices, cab options, and long history of strong resale value. Consumers recognize the ongoing innovation and improvement that Ford incorporates into the F-150’s design, such as fuel-injected engines, improved comfort with premium leather seating, aluminum construction, driver-assist technology, hybrid capability, and purpose-built off-road versions.

The best reason to purchase a Ford F-150 is its ability to serve more than one purpose on one platform. One platform can support a construction crew, a farmer, a commuter, a family member, or someone looking for a recreational vehicle to tow.

    Ford F-150 Recall History

    • Recall for occupant classification software on 2012 Ford F-150 trucks manufactured from November 6, 2011, to November 15, 2011. The occupant classification system module was recalled because incorrect software could be used to determine whether the passenger air bag deploys in the event of a collision.
    • Brake Lamp Switches in the 2014 F-150 recall the switch that detects the brake pedal may be improperly adjusted, which means the brake lamps may be delayed or possibly not illuminate at all. This results in noncompliance with FMVSS 108. The affected trucks are manufactured from March 1, 2014, to March 13, 2014.
    • Ford recalls select 2013-2014 F-150s equipped with 3.5-liter engines due to a brake master-cylinder defect. More specifically, the rear cup seal of the master cylinder may roll out of place and cause brake fluid to leak into the brake booster, reducing braking performance.
    • Recall of seat belt anchorage due to seat belt anchoring hardware not being eligible for use as a separate piece in 2017 F-150 and Super Duty. The seat-belt anchoring hardware may not have been welded correctly, resulting in nonconformance to FMVSS 210 and 207.
    • Ford is issuing a recall of approximately 1.26 million 2011-2013 F-150 pickup trucks because a defect in the vehicles’ six-speed automatic transmissions may cause them to unexpectedly downshift into first gear while driving, resulting in an increased risk of a crash.
    • Recall of 3.5L EcoBoost Brake Master Cylinder In September, Ford recalls some of the 2014-2016 F-150 vehicles equipped with the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. The recall involves the brake master cylinder, which can develop a fluid leak into the brake booster. According to records maintained by NHTSA and other government sources, approximately 292,311 trucks are affected by this recall.
    • Recall for the tailgate latch on all models of the 2018 F-150 truck, manual and electric, because the tailgate latch could allow the tailgate to open while the vehicle was moving. The recall affected approximately 57,591 vehicles.
    • The 2021 driveshaft-separation recall: Ford recalls several F-150s due to warranty claims where improper installation of the circlip on the two-piece driveshaft may allow the two sections of the component to separate.
    • The 2022 trailer brake controller recall: Trailer brake control systems that are sold on the 2021 and 2022 model year Ford F-150 vehicles may develop defects causing the electric or electric-over-hydraulic braking systems to apply incorrectly while towing a trailer, resulting in reduced braking control.
    • The 2022 power-adjustable steering column recall: A recall is issued for 2022 Ford F-150 trucks equipped with power adjustable telescoping steering columns because of problems that may affect the occupant protection capability of the steering column.
    • The 2022 driveshaft damage recall: Certain model years of F-150 (2021 to 2022 MY) have issues with the heat and noise insulating materials coming loose from their mounts in the underbody of the truck, allowing contact with the aluminum driveshaft, possibly damaging the shaft and causing a fracture.
    • On November 1, 2022, Ford recalls numerous F-150 pickups due to defective windshield wiper motors. As a part of this recall, dealers are to replace the defective motors with a new motor produced after August 31, 2022.
    • The 2023 rear light bar recall – The reverse lamp lenses in specific F-150 Lightning Platinum and Lariat trucks, made from October 14, 2021, until March 28, 2023, are recalled due to developing microcracks on the reversing lamps, which could affect the lighting produced by the reverse lights on the back of your vehicle.
    • The 2023 electric parking brake recall: Some 2021 F-150 vehicles that use a single exhaust system are recalled for potential damage to the wiring harness due to contact with the rear axle resulting from an electronic parking brake activating while driving a vehicle.
    • Ford recalls the cabin heater coolant case of model year 2023 F-150 BEV. The reason for this recall is that there is a possibility of a loose solder joint on the electronic cabin coolant heater, which may lead to malfunctioning of the coolant heater module and may not operate properly.
    • Recall 23V896 covers rear axle hub-bolt concerns for the 2021-2023 F-150 models, covering 54,509 of 2021; 47,886 of 2022; and 10,570 of 2023 models.
    • Recall Of 2023 Ford F-150 9,281 Units From Steering Column Control Module Issue: 2023 transmission recalls are issued to F-150 vehicles manufactured between January 3 and June 15, 2023. The steering column control module can have malfunctioning parts causing the inability for operators to drive safely.
    • The 2024 high-voltage battery junction box recall In case you haven’t already heard, Ford announces that it is recalling 216 of its F-150 Lightning trucks assembled between October 31, 2022, and August 2, 2023, for this very problem. Missing or loose retention nuts on high-voltage battery junction box bus bars could result in a potential electrical safety issue.
    • Recall of 2024 steering fastener: Certain 2024 F-150 trucks are recalled due to the use of an improper fastener to connect the lower shaft of the steering column with the steering gear. This could create a risk that you lose control of your truck’s steering.
    • Recall is due to improper adhesion of the windshield on some model year 2024 F-150 vehicles produced from April 28 to May 2, 2024.
    • Ford issues a recall for 2023 to 2024 model year F-150 Lightning BEV trucks due to a suspension failure in 8,017 vehicles from 2023 and 3,905 vehicles from 2024.
    • 2019-2020 F-150 engine oil leak recall: Certain 2019-2020 F-150s with the 3.5L GTDI engine are subject to an engine oil leak recall due to a misaligned engine cup plug that can potentially cause an oil leak from an engine compartment at a faster rate than anticipated.
    • Due to a rearview-camera software issue, Ford issues recall 25V315 for some 2021 through 2024 model year F-150 trucks and select other Ford and Lincoln vehicles. The software may cause the rearview camera to provide no image, freeze temporarily, or take an excessive amount of time to display a view following vehicle start-up, a defect that Ford estimates affects 527,371 F-150s and more than 1.07 million total affected U.S. vehicles in this recall.
    • Rear Axle Hub Recall 2025: At Ford, 103,175 2023, 2024, and 2025 F-150 vehicles are recalled due to defective lug bolts that could fail under extreme conditions, resulting in loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway.
    • Instrument Panel Cluster Recall 2025: Affected Vehicles are 2025 F-150 trucks that are recalled under NHTSA No. 25-V540 due to failure of the instrument cluster at vehicle start-up, preventing the driver from receiving important information from the instrument panel, including speed and warning lights.
    • 2015-2017 Ford F-150s can experience an unexpected downshift into second gear due to a failure of communication between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module. According to reporting, the affected Fords number approximately 1.3 million.

    Ford Overview

Ford Motor Company was established as an automobile manufacturer in Detroit in 1903 by Henry Ford and other early investors. It revolutionized the automotive industry through production of the Model T and the introduction of a continuously moving assembly line for the Model T chassis, which reduced completion time from an average of 12.5 hours to approximately 1.5 hours and making it much more feasible for most families to own a car.

Today, Ford has developed into a large, global manufacturer of automobiles, including cars and trucks for the consumer and commercial markets, specialty performance vehicles, and luxury vehicles under the Lincoln brand name.
